Kirkus Reviews will soon publish the first review (A STARRED REVIEW) of SONG OF FRANCIS (on sale February 5, 2009). Briefly: “A beautiful celebration of simplicity and joy for the very youngest children… Using painted collage on watercolor paper, dePaola achieves a vivid and muscular color, and Matisse-inspired shapes form birds, angels, stars and growing things…With this effort, the artist refines the saint’s Canticle of the Sun/Canticle of the Creatures to an irreducible essence of joy in all creation. Glorious.”

Tomie leaves today on the last leg of his BRAVA, STREGA NONA book tour, hopes to return in one piece. By the way, the pop-up will be on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller lists for a second week on November 23.
