Minutes ago, Tomie received an invitation from the president of Pratt Institute to receive an honorary degree during Pratt’s 120th Commencement Exercises on May 18, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall. A minute later, an email was sent to President Schutte accepting.

Tomie graduated from Pratt in 1956 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Tomie couldn’t be happier.

In May of 2005, Tomie returned to the stage for the Newport Opera House production of “State Fair.” (He later declared his return to also be his farewell.) Two photographs from the production, featuring Tomie, can be seen at:

Tomie played the intoxicated pickle judge (that is, the pickled pickle judge).
