Tomie traveled to Australia many times to promote his books. He met Jenny and Tony on one of his trips and became good friends with them. When their son, Fraser, was born, they named Tomie his godfather in 1994. Jenny, Tony and Fraser would often visit Tomie in NH. (Fraser graduated from UCLA some years ago.) (Bob)

Suzy Staubach autographed at Gibson’s Bookstore in Concord, NH, last October, and we were there for the debut of her book, A GARDEN MISCELLANY. Suzy’s original idea was to photograph gardens, including Tomie’s, for her book. But, the publisher chose instead to use drawings to illustrate her text. A wonderful book. (Bob)

New London, NH, had a town-wide promotion in 2009 called “The Gnus of Gnu London.” Gnus, painted by area artists, were placed throughout the town. Kathleen Norris, NEW YORK TIMES best-selling author, was visiting and helped Tomie paint his gnu while he read her book, ACEDIA & ME. (Kathleen and Tomie collaborated on a book, THE HOLY TWINS, published in 2001.) Tomie’s gnu, originally sponsored by Morgan Hill Bookstore, can be seen on the green between the New London Inn and the New London Town Offices. (Robert Jensen thought the promotion should have featured loons, so the town could have been called New Loondon.) (Bob)
