Tomie was enamored with Frida Kahlo, her life and her work. This was Tomie’s art-mail for her birthday, July 6, in 2016. A highlight of Tomie’s trips to Mexico City was a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, also known as the Blue House, the place where she was born, and where she died. REMEMBERING TOMIE on July 5, 2020
My first big trip with Tomie was to Europe for promotional activities during the fall of 1979. In Paris, Tomie was intent on walking everywhere for hours. Although I was twenty years younger, I eventually asked if we could sit and rest… a story he delighted in re-telling. He bought Simon Pearce glassware in London at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and we painstakingly carried the goblets from stop to stop. It was amusing to learn not much longer after that trip that Simon Pearce had located its first US factory about 40 minutes from New London. (Bob) Pray for Peace, Justice, and Equality
